Metal Barns are Great for Agriculture Storage and Animal Shelter
Metal barns are durable & robust farm buildings that can be used to store your farm produce and protect your livestock on the farm. These pre-engineered barns can be custom-made to shelter different farm animals like cattle, hogs, horses, etc. You can even plan a dedicated storage space for hay, crops, animal fodder, and equipment. These custom barns not only store agricultural products and shelter animals but can also be used to protect farm equipment, vehicles, and large tractors from outdoor elements. The structural strength and fire resistance nature of steel makes them an excellent option for animal sheltering and storage space compared to other alternatives. In a nutshell, metal barns are versatile structures and the perfect solution for all your agricultural storage needs. Call us today at (336) 673-3065 to get a free quote on your dream barn building.

Customizing Your Barn
By choosing Boss Buildings, you have the freedom to design your metal barn exactly the way you want! Youβre in the driverβs seat, and itβs up to you to select everything from custom barn dimensions, to roof type, to the gauge of your steel, trim, colors, doors, windows, certification requirements, and more!

How big does your metal barn need to be? You can choose a smaller steel barn, or you can go with a width of all the way up to 70β for the center building. You can also choose pretty much any length you like. Need your custom metal barn to be taller so you can accommodate a tractor or other big items? We can provide what you need! The typical lean-toβs are 10β to 12β to wide, but we can design engineered lean-toβs up to 24β wide.

14-gauge is the common standard for steel barn framing, but you also have the option of choosing thicker 12-gauge steel for an even more durable steel barn. You choose the gauge of your barnβs metal roofing and siding, too, which by default is 29-GA. Remember that certification requirements beyond 65 PSF may sometimes need building with 12 GA tubing mandatorily.

Does your location require certification of metal structures like barns? We can design your metal barn to meet any necessary wind or snow loads. And even if certification isnβt required, you can still choose aΒ certified metal buildingΒ for greater peace of mind.

Add gables to the front or back for greater reinforcement and a finished look. Protective J-trim can be used to cover the edges of your panels. Plus, we have anchors to secure your metal barn to almost any type of installation surface, even level ground!

You can go with a more traditional βbarn red,β or you can go your own way and choose from among our other attractive color options for your roof panels, side paneling, and trim. You can even choose a two-tone wainscot look, if you like.
What Are Some Uses Of A Barn-style Farm Building
A steel barn is much more versatile than barns made with more βtraditionalβ methods such as wood. Traditionally, pole barns have been used as equestrian buildings and horse stables. Metal barns too, can be used as horse stables and equestrian facilities. However, there is much more to a steel barn building than just horse arenas.
Yes, steel barn kits make excellent buildings for keeping your horses, as well as tack and other supplies safe from the weather and other elements.
How about a larger steel barn with covered space for riding while being protected from the elements? Your beloved horse(s) donβt have to be out in the heat/snow, and neither do you need to.
Barns arenβt just for horses; theyβre also for cows and other livestock. Use your steel barn as a dairy production or egg production facility. You can temperature control your building and use the available insulation types to increase the efficiency of temperature control.
Cows, mules, hogs, sheep, cattle, poultry, and other livestock can be safely housed inside a steel barn building. The metal building would provide a hygienic and healthy environment for the animals and would also keep them away from dangers like predator attacks.
Need a clean, safe, and dry place to store your agricultural products like crops, fruits, grains, and hay? Our barns are perfect for hay storage purposes.
Design a barn large enough to accommodate your tractor, combine, or whatever other equipment you need to keep under shelter.
Donβt just house your farm vehicles; park, protect, and secure your personal vehicles too! Also great for RVs, boats, or other large vehicles. Need some outdoor storage space for the stuff you can no longer fit in your house? Use our lean-to barn buildings as a garage or even a makeshift office.
Metal Barns Are Really Better Barns
Whatβs so great about a metal barn? Pretty much everything! Here are just a few features that make a steel barn fromΒ BOSS BUILDINGSΒ a better choice than any stick-build or pole barn:
Some Handy Tips to Help You Get Ready
One of the first things you should decide is how you plan to use your steel barn. Consider how much space youβll need to accommodate your animals, supplies, or whatever else. Factor in the length, width, and height of these items so youβre sure to get a large enough metal barn. In hindsight, most customers wish theyβd chosen a bigger building, not a smaller one. Once youβve made your decision and placed your order, here a few things you can do to get your site
ready for installation:
- Obtain any needed building permits, if required in your area
- Make sure your site is level
- Mark any buried utility lines on or near your site
- Clear enough space around your site (at least 3β on all sides) so our crew will have sufficient room to work
- Make sure to let us know which foundation youβll be installing on, so we can be sure to bring the correct anchors
Metal Barn FAQs
Questions help you get to the heart of the matter. We want to help you make the best buying decision by answering some of the most common questions we get about metal barns:
Metal barns are often used for storing farm equipment, protecting livestock, housing vehicles and supplies, workshops, and hobby spaces.
You can adjust nearly everything, including the width, height, roof style, color, and the type or number of doors.
Most metal barns use galvanized steel frames with heavy-duty panels for the walls and roof. These materials resist rust and corrosion, and feature UV-protective finishes to resist sunlight and exposure.
With basic upkeep, a well-built metal barn can last 40 years or longer.
If youβre storing animals or temperature-sensitive items, insulation helps regulate heat and reduce condensation.
A level concrete slab is the most common foundation type for a metal barn, but some use gravel, asphalt, and even soil foundations.
When properly anchored and rated for your area, metal barns are some of the most durable options for wind and snow-heavy regions.
Yes, easy expansion is one of the biggest advantages of owning a metal barn. Because of their modular design, you can extend the length or add new sections later without rebuilding from scratch.
Most areas require basic site plans and engineering details before constructing a metal barn. If the barn houses animals or sits near property lines, extra permits might apply. Checking with your local building office early saves time later.
Metal barns are low-maintenance overall. Keep gutters clear, wash off dirt or debris a few times a year, and tighten any hardware that works loose. Thatβs about it!
